Organic field-effect-transistors (OFETs) are promising in the future development of active devices for flexible, low-cost and large-area photoelectric devices. However, conventional FETs using organic materials have low-speed, low-power, and relatively high operational voltage. We have proposed several new type OFETs such as vertical type transistors called as static induction transistors (SIT), step-edge vertical channel (SVC) transistors, and phase transition transistors using charge-transfer complex. In particular, the vertical FETs show high-speed and high-power operations and their excellent characteristics mainly arise from the vertical structure with a very short length between the source, drain, and gate electrodes. Phase transition transistors and nano-wire transistors using charge-transfer complex were also fabricated. In addition, these OFETs are able to fabricate on flexible substrates and are expected for portable device applications.

In this presentation, I describe the advantages of new type organic transistors and their basic characteristics.
