摘要:Light confined on the nanoscale can be remarkably powerful and gentle at the same time. We show the strength of light by coupling many nanomechanical oscillators isolated across spaces from a few hundred nanometers to many kilometers and making them spontaneously ‘dance’ in synchrony. We show the gentleness and extreme sensitivity of light through watching the thermal vibrations of a single carbon nanotube in the real-time and revealing its hidden ultrahigh quality factor. These powerful and sensitive chip-scale devices with strong light-matter interaction could open a new paradigm of novel sensors and integrated networks.

报告人:Dr. Mian Zhang is Postdoctoral Fellow of Applied Physics in the John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Harvard University. He received his Ph.D. degree in Applied Physics from Cornell University in 2015. Before that, he obtained his BSc in Physics from the University of Bristol in UK. He is interested in novel optical and mechanical interactions on the nanoscale and the networks of these nanoscale objects. In addition, he cares about the application of novel nanophotonics concepts for sensing, telecommunication and quantum technologies.
